Okay, it's not as good as the coin-op but this is still an ST classic alone. Unique scrolling fighter action, looking a bit dated now but highly playable.

That game was a great game but again only at the arcades machines to play this game with the ST joystick is not much comparing to the video games machine

You can download the game from Automation disk 69_3 (ftp://ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de/pub/atari/games/Automation/A_069_3.ST). You can see Power Pack instructions from http://www.geocities.com/yotisrx7/PowerPack.html#Afterburner.

This game was rather dull. To be fair to the developers the (16-BIT) hardware of the time wasn't up to the standards of the dedicated arcade machines. However, as with so many arcade conversions you did get the feeling that they kind of got bored making the game after a while. Golden Axe was another example of a cracking arcade game that didn't quite come off on the home computers. Overall I'm not a huge fan of these types of games anyway so perhaps I'm not the best to comment. For me, this game got boring fast and I found a more tactical shooter like ATF II much more enjoyable.

This was the first St game I ever owned. Moving up from a spectrum, I was amazed by the colour graphics and speech !!! Consequently, I played it until I could beat it every time. Oh the memories...

Afterburner - a great arcade game because of the dedicated Sega graphics processors present in the hardware. Afterburner ST - a dreadful arcade game due to the lack of dedicated Sega graphics processors present in the ST. You get the feeling this took second place in development priority to Argonauts other project of that time period - the ill-fated 'Birds of Prey'.

Afterburner - Hence I did not become a fighter pilot once I'd grown up .

I got this game with my ST in int's infamous powerpack edition. LOved the music back then and the fact that it had 3d/morphing balls in it's menu :) Also the game itself was rather nice.. not nearly as good as the Arcades but then again it ws a nice blaster too.. since the concept of the game was somewhat novel.
