A straightforward beat-em-up! Appeared on the Amiga also. Recall being able to slice, hack, and stab your opponent. Highly recommended!

I love this game! It was the first game I ever played on the ST, and me and my mate would wander off down the woods after playing it and try to lop each others heads off with large sticks! The little guy who comes and kicks the severed head of your opponent off the screen was an inspired touch, and his laugh would haunt you if it happened to be you on the receiving end... I wonder though, if any one else only ever played the first "training" level in the woods? We only had access to one disc on my mate's ST, and forever fought to try and get to the castle, not realising it came in a seperate load....a fact I only discovered when I got it for my humble Spectrum!

Oh yes, one of the early "killer games" that made students run around and behead their classmates (so our smart German politicans think...). But if I remember it right, the possibility of cutting off heads and watching the blood fountain was indeed the very highlight of this game. Ppl were loving it for this special detail...so was I hehe :P

Great game in 1 versus 1 where you could decapitate your opponent! [FR] Super jeu en 1 contre 1 ou vous pouviez décapiter votre adversaire!

I once played that game, but it was called "Death Sword"

brilliant game!!! Dont confuse it with that psygnosis one (crap). I loved it when swords clashed and you get that cool clanging sound. How many people tried to go through the game only using the head chopping move?

An excellent fighting game. It had its problems of course (including a bug that would let you defeat all the oppoents apart from the last one, without risking defeat, but if you did not know about it or did not use it, just an excellent swordfighting game. If you like Conan etc you will love this one. 5/5 There is also a freeware remake of this game for the PC, if anyone is interested email me for more info.

This game was one of the first that I was shown on the ST. Being a +4 owner at the time this seemed out of this world, the sounds of the swords clashing and the blood spurting out from a heads being cut off seemed BRILL!

I think I was first shocked when I "accidently" succeeded in chopping off my oponents head ;) then I laughed when the little monster kicked it aside.... one of the first games that had the blood flowing on screen....although I hate real live violence, this is probably where my love for games like Doom 2 and Unreal came from ;)

I once got all the way to drax, just by holding back and fire! What a game, watch those heads roll!

I have lots of memories of this game. Barbarian was a cool fighting game to me. I was able to beat the first guy but when I would get to the second round, I always failed. This was back when I was six back in 1989. My brother even owned an Atari ST computer at that time. My brother used to play this game a lot. When he played this game again, today, he got so many flashbacks of when he used to play it on the Atari ST computer. The sequal was much better than the first one because it was easier than trying to fight each other. Barbarian can be found on Automation compact disk 29.

Yeah, everyone remembers the beheading. The move was called the flying neck chop. Me and my mate actually loaded this one up a year or two ago, and instantly remembered how to do the move! Funny the things you remember ...

One of the games that started the debate on violence in computer-games. And darn good fun to play.

Never again was a sword duel realized as perfect in a game as Palace did it with Barbarian. Obviously inspired by the movie Conan the Barbarian, you fight against various opponents in one on one duels to make your way into an evil wizard's fortress, where you ultimately free - of course - some kind of princess or whatever. Ok, so the story isn't very imaginative, but who cares? The high number of different attack and parry moves alone make this game an experience in itself, and of course the ever so cool beheading of your opponent with a twisted doublehanded blow to the neck - followed by a blood fountain and the evilly snickering gnome coming in, dragging the corpse away and kicking the head out of the screen - was the greatest reward at the end of a tough fight. Plus the soundtracked rocked big time and still does today. Download. Play. Get hooked.
